Which Parks Does A Desert Parks Pass Cover

People wishing to travel through the following areas MUST have a Desert Parks Pass:

  • Simpson Desert Conservation Park
  • Simpson Desert Regional Reserve

The pass will also cover entry and camping for the following areas:

  • Innamincka Regional Reserve (including Coongie Lakes),
  • Strzelecki Regional Reserve,
  • Lake Eyre National Park,
  • Witjira National Park (including Dalhousie Springs),
  • Wabma Kadarbu Mound Springs ,
  • Tallaringa Conservation Park.

What will a camping permit cover?

In some areas a full desert parks pass is not required and in these areas an overnight permit can be purchased. These are valid for the following areas Only:

  • Innamincka Regional Reserve (excluding Coongie Lakes),
  • Lake Eyre National Park,
  • Witjira National Park.

These overnight permits are only available from the places listed below and can only be purchased on the same day that you enter the park.

  • Innamincka
  • Marree
  • William Creek
  • Oodnadatta
  • Mount Dare
  • Dalhousie Springs 

An Overnight permit only includes a permit sticker for your windscreen,

A Coongie Lakes permit is about $40.00 and is only available from Innamincka. 

Where is a permit not required

On some main roads in parks a permit is not required. This is only if you are NOT driving off of the main road or camping in the park. These areas are:

  • Strzelecki Track (Lyndhurst to Innamincka)
  • Cordillo Road (Innamincka to Birdsville Via Cordillo Downs)
  • Innamincka to Nappa Merrie
  • Innamincka Town Common
  • Eringa to Fink Via Mount Dare
  • Eringa to Andado Via Mount Dare

Cost

  • A Full Desert Parks Pass Is $105.00 (GST inc.) Per Vehicle. Full Desert Parks Pass will include several detailed maps, a handbook which contains information on each of the parks, a windscreen sticker, and general safety information needed for travelling in the Desert Areas. Included with the Coongie Lakes permit is a safety information and an Innamincka Map.A
  • Desert Parks Pass can be renewed for three consecutive one year terms after the initial year of purchase currently @ $60.00 Per Year. Passes can only be renewed with in 12 months from date of initial purchase on last renewal only.
